Around sixty-five years ago when I was a little girl, I could take three of these babies to the corner store and trade them for a penny which could buy a gum ball, a long licorice whip, an all day sucker, a jaw breaker or any of a huge assortment of penny candy's.
I don't have any of those tokens, but I do remember buying the long ropes of licorice..they say that eating licorice can raise your blood pressure.. no wonder I have high B/P after all of the black licorice I consumed as a child.Have a good day.
I didn't know you could turn in tokens for money...well almost money...a penny can buy what? not even a gum ball anymore...we had a little variety store that mom let me walk to and buy penny candy..nothing better, or so I thought...I remember going to that store with my change and bought my mom a bottle of perfume..it was in a blue bottle and I think it was called Paris...I saw it at a flea market later once...I almost bought it just for the memory...LOL judy
